Whenever possible, medications should be given at home before or after school.
If medications are needed during school hours, the following are required:

Medications must be in the original container.
- Prescription medications should be in a pharmacy labeled bottle that includes clearly legible the student's name, the name of the medication, dosage, and the frequency the medicine is to be given. The pharmacy can print an extra label and given the extra bottle to be used for school.
- Medications must not be expired.
- medications will only be administered in dosages appropriate for age and weight as per manufacturer label.
- over the counter medications require the attached form to be filled out and signed by the parent or guardian. The form may be found below.
- All prescription medications require a doctor or appropriate health care provider's signature (ex. nurse practitioner, physician's assistant). The form may be found below.
- Medications brought in by students are stored in a locked cabinet in the nurse's office. Students who need to carry medications should have a note from a health care provider on file in the nurse's office noting permission to carry and stating the student has been taught the proper use of medication and the student is responsible enough to carry and self-administer the medication.
- The school does not keep stock medications such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen to administer to students.
- The school does not currently keep stock emergency medications such as epinephrine, albuterol, or seizure medications.
Sending Medications Home
Medications may not be sent home with grades K-8. These medications must be picked up by a parent/guardian or a person at least 18 years of age and designated by the parent/guardian in writing to pick up the medication.
For students in grades 9-12, over the counter medications may be sent home with the student with written permission from the parent/guardian. Controlled and prescription medications must be picked up by the parent/guardian.
All medications left at the school after the last day will be disposed of unless prior arrangements have been made with the nurse.
